Share a Remote Desktop Across the Internet for Free

Here's the scenario: Your mom is in another state and she calls you up to ask you how to do something relatively complex on her computer. You wish you could just access her PC and show her, but how are you going to do that? She'd have to install some sort of software, and wouldn't that be expensive? Nope, it's free. Thanks to TeamViewer.com you've got a one-stop solution for screen-sharing and accessing a remote desktop across the Internet, for free. Yes, your mom would have to install an application, but it's super easy. Here's how.

Step 1

Both computers need to go to Teamviewer.com. If you are on a Windows machine, the programs you're going to need are right on the front page. For Macs you'll need to go to the Download page.

Step 2

You're the person who's providing support, so you need to click the link that says "Start Full Version" (It's also called "Full Version" on the Download page). The install process is only slightly more complex for you than for the client.

Step 3

Save the TeamViewer_Setup.exe to your hard drive and run the executable. You have the option to "Install" or just "Run" the application. If you want to permanently install the application so you don't have to do this again, you can do so by choosing "Install." But for this walkthrough we are going to only run it, so choose "Run." Click Next and accept the license.

Step 4

At the same time you're doing this, the person whom you want to help (in this case your mom) needs to run the client setup. She can click "Join A Session" on the front of the TeamVeiwer.com site or click "QuickSupport" on the Download page. There's practically no install process for her. All she has to do is save the exe to the hardrive and run it. A window instantly pops up with an ID and password.

Step 5

Now, the client (or your Mom) needs to tell you over the phone, email, text, whatever, what the ID and password are that they are getting from Team Viewer.

Step 6

On your side, under "Create A Session," enter the client's ID and hit "Connect To Partner." For this case we are choosing Remote Support, but you can also choose Presentation (which shows your desktop, not theirs), File Transfer and VPN.

Step 7

Enter the password the client gave you and click "Log On."

Step 8

Now the desktop of the client's machine will appear and you have full control. Up at the top of the screen is a menu full of extra options for you.

Step 9

To start a chat go to Extras > Chat. Now you can hang up the phone and chat directly with the client through Team Viewer.

Step 10

There are numerous other options as well, such as switching sides so they can see your screen, remote reboot of the other machine, file transfer, optimizing the connection and changing the resolution. You can even record the session.

Step 11

To end the session, all you have to do is click the "X" on the toolbar. The client can also just hit "Cancel" on the ID and Password screen. There's nothing to uninstall. Congratulations, you've made your mother proud

How to Use Yahoo Messenger on a Mobile Telephone

tep 1

There are two ways to install Yahoo Messenger on your mobile phone: Go to the Yahoo Messenger website (see Resources below) from any computer connected to the Internet and enter your mobile phone number in the top right corner of the page labeled "Get Started!" Yahoo will send a link to your mobile phone to install Yahoo Messenger. You can also visit the Yahoo Messenger website (see Resources below) from your mobile phone's Internet browser. That page will guide you through the installation of the Yahoo Messenger software.

Install the Yahoo Messenger software on your mobile phone and sign in with the same user name and password that you use for your computer version of Messenger. Once you are signed in, you will be able to see your contact lists, change your status, and send and receive messages just like you could from your computer.

Step 3

Make sure you have a subscription for mobile Internet access in place on your phone before using the Yahoo Messenger application, or you will be charged for each message you send. Some mobile phones will not work at all with Yahoo Messenger if you do not have a subscription for mobile Internet access. Check the details for your specific mobile phone and carrier

How To install yahoo messenger On your Mobile Phone

How to Build Your Own Home Security System

  1. The peace of mind that comes with a household security system can hardly be replaced. Unfortunately, many homeowners are discouraged by the high monthly cost of many commercial alarm companies. The solution for some is a do-it-yourself project.
  2. The project should be thoroughly planned and executed to ensure there are no gaps in the security system, and that all windows and doors are covered. Motion detectors and glass-break sensors can be added for more complete coverage. Installing a complete Home Security system can be done in as little as 1 to 2 days, depending on the size of the home and complexity of the system.
  3. Step 1

Purchase the components for your system. A total alarm kit is much easier than piecing together individual components, and basic systems can be had for 100 to 200 dollars. If you require a completely custom system, you can buy the system in individual pieces, but it is still easier to purchase a kit and then add on extra components if needed. These systems can be purchased through eBay, a number of online retailers, or even some local security stores (see Resources below).

  4. Step 2

Assemble a plan of attack for your house. It is absolutely essential that every single exterior door and window is covered by a sensor. If possible, glass break sensors should be positioned over any large glass doors or sets of windows, and motion detectors should be placed around the main areas of your home, such as the living Room and hallway. Try to think like an intruder, and place sensors in areas they would first try when breaking in.

  5. Step 3

Install the sensors across your home. If you purchased a wireless system, your job may be as simple as adhering each sensor into place and turning it on. Wired components are much more difficult to install, because a line to each one must be run through the wall. By removing the baseboards, you can often run the wiring along the floor and hide it by replacing the baseboards. Each line should run back to a common area where the central unit or keypad will be installed.

  6. Step 4
Connect the wires (if applicable) to the central alarm unit, where the sensors, keypads and the siren itself communicate with each other. This unit will also be where accessories such as battery backup and telephone broadcasting connect. This box should be mounted in a location not easily accessed by unwelcome guests, such as a utility room or closet. A secure lock will further hinder any tampering.
  7. Step 5

Install the keypad, which is where the entire system will be controlled. These allow you to enter your private code to enable either complete protection or perimeter protection (door and window sensors only), which comes in handy for night use. Any communication or configuration of the system will be done through the keypads, so you want to make sure they are in a convenient location. You should be able to easily access a keypad from your most commonly used entrance door, so you can disable it before it goes off.

How to Shop for a home security alarm

tep 1

Know the basic components. And what they do. You’ll definitely need: a control panel, door and window contacts, and sirens or alarms. You might want: motion detectors, Cameras glassbreak sensors and additional security keypads.

Step 2

Survey your home. Walk around the perimeter of your home as if you were a burglar. Take note of any likely entry points and what you need to invest in to secure them. Look for low windows, exterior man doors and second story windows that can be reached by climbing.

Step 3

Shop for a company. The next couple of steps will deal with what you need to do to survey the home security providers in your area. Getting good service is equal or greater importance to the hardware you are getting.

Step 4

Talk to several companies. See if they will come to your home and take a look at your home and do some risk assessment. Ask them where they see problems and what they would do about it.

Step 5

Get quotes. Get an estimate in writing. Make sure they include costs for equipment, setup, responses, monthly monitoring fees and warranties.

Step 6

Get some references. A good company will have some customers willing to be contacted as references (or you can ask a friend). Ask if the system was installed in the quoted timeframe, if contracts were clear and explained well, if the customer service is courteous and readily available, if they’ve ever had a break-in and how quickly the company responded.

Step 7

Research the equipment. Most companies get their hardware from a certain company. Ask what they’ll be installing and go on the internet and find some reviews. Read about specific units. Gather opinions from several different websites.

Step 8

Sleep on it. Representatives may seem very excited and that can get infectious. But be firm and mull it over for awhile. Don’t sign anything on the spot. At least talk it over with your spouse or a rational friend.

Step 9

Sign up. Go ahead and sign the contract when you feel confident. A good company will walk you through the rest of the process. Good luck .

How to Get The Best Home Security System

Step 1
lock
lock

Some folk try a more natural solution for an alarm monitoring service. Just the other day I noticed a local business van advertising that they rent trained dogs for just this purpose. We are at our residence most all of the time so we actually use this type of protection, depending on our own two large dogs to keep us from harms way.

Step 2
residential protection
residential protection

Protecting your home with a Home security System is always a good choice but the best home alarm setup is especially needed for the elderly. If a residence is burglarized authorities can be immediately notified and help can be on the way in minutes.
One great way to keep your premises protected is using a remote surveillance camera. You can hook the cam up to an ftp server to upload your video to the net so that you can even watch your home while away, via the net.

Step 3
home safety
home safety

Do your homework when looking for the best home alarm. Compare services offered with price. Sometimes a recommendation from your local police department can point you in the direction for the perfect home alarm. Advertise your home’s protection with a sign on your property stating the secure protection of your home. This too will help.

Step 4

If you're dirt poor and can't afford to spend any real amount for monitored Security system then at the very least purchase one of those blinking red LED lights powered by a double-A battery (placing the light in your window) to at least provide a deterrent. A thief will at least think twice about entering as he may very well think its an electronic surveillance home alarm system

After accepting the invite, you will receive a confirmation if you will allow the connection. There is a warning that the person will see your screen… and that’s the idea so choose Yes.

  5. Step 5
    Request Control
    Request Control

At this point, he is only able to see what’s going on with your screen, but does not have any interaction or control over your computer. So he should press Request Control and you will get notification if you wish to let the person share control of your computer. So hit Yes so he can start helping you with your computer problem.

  6. Step 6

Make Your Own Forum Signature

If you have been around forum or message board for a while you are starting to develop your own personality online. Your personality is always there people are just getting to know you and it better. Once you develop this and a user id online it is time to make a signature or change the one you have from the basics.

The code used to create these signatures is similar to HTML. HTML is the code that is used to write webpage text. The only difference is the tags are brackets rather then greater than, less then symbols. When you write code like this you have an open code and a close code.

Step 2

The open code is the action that you want to occur enclosed in brackets. Examples of this are which causes your text to be bold. Another one is which makes your text italic.
To stop the special feature, use the close tag. Examples are or . The / mark tells the code to stop whatever feature or option is inside the brackets.

Step 3

Until you are familiar with all of the options you can look them up. Open a new message on the message board. Most boards have a gui interface that allows you to click buttons like a Microsoft word program.

Step 4

Once you log into your account on the message board there should be an option to add your signature. This should be as simple as copy and pasting your text with the tags into a text box and clicking save

Build a Wiki Community

The first thing that many people think of when they hear the word “wiki” is Wikipedia. Even though Wikipedia has grown to become one of the largest websites on the internet, it actually started out being very tiny. It’s only through collaboration and teamwork that projects such as these can grow to become something awesome – maybe even a multi-million article resource! So how exactly can you grow something from a small one man project to a huge community of hardworking people?

Begin adding content to the wiki you are building. It’s not possible to grow a community when there is no content there to grow upon. What would people edit if there is no content? Even though it may seem like you are all alone adding content, just keep it up. People will eventually join you in your venture.

Step 2

Be open to allowing anonymous (anons) to edit your wiki. Some wikis choose to allow only registered users – people who have created an account – add content to their wiki. You will be turning many great people away by doing this, and possibly losing some great contributors.

Step 3

Don’t “protect” too many pages from editing. Often times certain articles will fall victim to what is called vandalism – where people add content that is not appropriate for the article. Your first instinct may be just to protect the page so nobody else can edit it; however, this will again turn away many potentially great contributors.

Step 4

Welcome people as soon as they have made their first edit on the wiki. If people begin editing a wiki and they see no sign of life, other activity, or any sign of a welcome or thank you message, they are going to lose interest. You need to make sure people are very welcome at the wiki.

Step 5

Thank people all the time for the edits they are making. People who edit wikis are doing this on their own freewill. Nobody gets paid to write for a wiki, so people are basically donating their time and skills for the sake of the wiki. You can’t thank someone too much!

Step 6

Be patient. Your wiki will not develop into something huge overnight. Everything takes time, and you will have to experiment and try out different techniques; see what works for you and your wiki

Take a Snapshot of Your Computer Screen

Start by locating a screen. In the center I work in as an engineer we make changes to pieces of equipment. It helps to take a picture before we make changes and after we make changes to compare them. THIS way there is a record and you can undo what changes you made if needed. This also works for cute things online or anything else on your screen.

Step 2

Hit the Prnt Scrn button at the top right of your keyboard. You will not see any changes but now there is a exact picture of what is on the screen in your copy. Open a picture program which could be as simple as paint and paste. The shortcut for paste is the CTRL key plus the V key. A picture of your desktop will appear within the screen.

Step 3

Use the edit tools to erase or select and delete any areas that you do not want to share. This is an exact copy and if you have an IM window or other window open it will show in the bars at the bottom of the picture.

Step 4

Select the file menu and choose save as. Type a name for your picture and a select or browse to the location that you want to save it. This creates a file with the picture inside. You can attach this file to a email the same as any other text or picture file

Build a Money Making Website Using a Blog

Decide on a platform of blog you want to create as your first step in building a money making website. You can go the FREE route focusing on cost savings in place of having minimal control. On the other hand, you could decide to purchase your own URL and self host a blog for complete control and an added setup cost. Think about the big picture when you are planning this step and where your goals point to in a few years.

Step 2

Focus on a particular niche that you are interested in that will allow you to grow a money making website. Be sure to really think this step through and do a little keyword research to make sure your domain name reflects the theme of your website. Once your domain name and niche are identified, plan out different categories you would like to include on your blog that are focused around a single main topic.

Step 3

Begin writing content that is focused around the niche or topic that you have decided to create your blog around. This is a critical step in order to be successful at building a money making website. Overtime, your content will have time to move up in search engine rankings which is great to increase your organic traffic. Be sure to keep your content specific to your niche as a way to keep your site focused.

Step 4

Build a solid base of readers who will subscribe to your blog and will help in building it into a money making website. While attracting organic traffic is important to your success, mixing in valued long time readers is also just as important. Having an established reader base gives your site credibility, which will help bring in advertisers to your site.

Step 5

Start monetizing your blog once it has been established and you have published several articles. Keep in mind that adding advertisements to your website does not guarantee instant income coming in, so be patient. There are many different ways to create a money making website including adding AdSense, direct advertisements, text link ads, and more.

Intel to focus on next generation of chips

Intel will focus on its next generation of smaller and faster chips at a conference next month as it prepares to ship new chips for systems in 2010.

Intel plans to shed more light on the Westmere architecture at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF), which will be held Sept. 22-24 in San Francisco. The company is expected to talk about the architecture behind its future chips for servers, laptops and desktops.

Chips based on Westmere will be made using the advanced 32-nanometer process and should deliver performance and power benefits over existing Intel chips made using the 45-nm process. Initial chips will integrate a CPU and graphics processor in a single package, which could improve graphics performance while drawing less power.

A server zone at IDF will focus on the Westmere-EP platform, where performance of server chips based on the new architecture will be highlighted. The company is expected to talk about many chip features, including security capabilities, and could show off systems at the show.

The first Westmere chips will go into laptops and desktops as early as the first half of 2010. Initial Westmere chips will be dual-core CPUs with 4MB of cache, and will include an integrated memory controller. Clock speeds could remain similar to existing processors, but performance could see a boost by running two threads on each core, Intel officials have said.

Initial Westmere-based laptop chips, code-named Arrandale, could preserve battery life while improving graphics performance. The desktop chips are code-named Clarkdale. The chips are expected to go into production in the fourth quarter this year, though samples have already shipped to laptop and desktop PC makers for testing.

The Westmere architecture is the basis of some of Intel's future laptop and desktop chips, including the Core i3, i5 and 7 chips, wrote Ken Kaplan in a blog entry on Intel's Web site on Wednesday.

The chip package's CPU will be made using the advanced 32-nanometer manufacturing process. The graphics processor will be made using the 45-nm process.

Westmere is a process shrink of Intel's current Nehalem microarchitecture, which forms the basis of the existing Core i7 high-end desktop and Xeon 5500 server chips. Nehalem integrates a memory controller with the CPU and provides a fast pipeline for processors and system components to communicate.

Nehalem was a big architectural shift as it was Intel's first microprocessor with an integrated memory controller, said Dean McCarron, principal analyst at Mercury Research. But early systems based on Nehalem were expensive with prices above US$1,000.

"Westmere is going to let the [Nehalem] architecture be much more broadly used," McCarron said. The process shrink lowers the cost of production for Intel, which could help push the chip design to inexpensive systems, he said.

Intel revamped its chip road map in February, saying it would move to a 32-nanometer process more quickly than it had originally planned. The company would spend $7 billion over the next two years to revamp manufacturing plants in order to reduce manufacturing costs while increasing production

Intel may also focus on the Larrabee chip during the show, McCarron said. Larrabee will include many cores and combine processing capabilities of graphics processing units with the x86 architecture, improving application and graphics performance. The chip -- being called a graphics processor -- is targeted at the gaming market and industries that require high-end parallel processing and graphics power, like oil and gas exploration..

"This will probably be the last IDF till Larrabee launches," McCarron said. Intel has said it would ship Larrabee in early 2010.

AT&T says it didn't block Google Voice

Apple is still reviewing the Google Voice iPhone application, and AT&T has not played any role in that review process, the companies told the U.S. Federal Communications Commission on Friday.

Google Voice has not been approved for distribution to the iPhone, and on July 31, the FCC questioned Apple and AT&T about their treatment of that and other proposed iPhone applications. It also questioned Google about its iPhone application and the approval process for software on its own Android mobile platform. All three companies submitted responses on Friday.

Apple said it has not rejected the Google Voice iPhone application but is still studying it. In response to pointed questions, both Apple and AT&T said the iPhone maker did not consult AT&T about Google Voice and that the carrier has not been involved in evaluating it. They said Apple typically does not consult AT&T about decisions on what applications can be offered in the iPhone App Store.

Google Voice would let users make calls on the smartphone while also providing voicemail, text messaging and contact management features. The fact that it has not been approved for the iPhone has heightened criticism of the review process for iPhone applications, which critics say is murky and unpredictable.

In the case of Google Voice, some observers suspected AT&T had squelched the software because it feared competition for its own voice services. In questining the companies, the FCC cited pending proceedings at the agency concerning open access to wireless networks and exclusive deals between handset makers and carriers.

Apple told the FCC that Google Voice hasn't been approved because it appears to replace the iPhone's core phone functionality and user interface with its own interface for phone calls, text messaging and voicemail. The application also transfers the user's Contacts database to Google's servers, "and we have yet to obtain any assurances from Google that this data will only be used in appropriate ways," Apple wrote.

The FCC had also questioned Apple and AT&T about third-party applications that make use of Google Voice. Along with Google Voice, three other applications -- GVDialer from MobileMax, VoiceCentral from Riverturn and GV Mobile by Sean Kovacs -- also raise issues that Apple is still studying, the company wrote.

Apple said it alone makes decisions about whether applications are allowed on the App Store. However, AT&T told the FCC that as part of their iPhone partnership, "AT&T and Apple agreed that Apple would not take affirmative steps to enable an iPhone to use AT&T's wireless service (including 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi) to make VOIP calls without first obtaining AT&T's consent." Apple said it also respects AT&T's customer terms of service, such as its rule against using the cellular network to redirect a TV signal. Apple said it doesn't even know whether there is a VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) element to Google Voice
